Rural fair of Joane

The Portuguese are very proud of their traditions and the festivities where some traditions become real – Rural Fairs – are very common in the North of the country.
Joane is a town situated near or school and some of our colleagues live there. It´s also a town which considers important the preservation of our ancient traditions and the old ways of doing things and
that´s why a Rural Fair takes place there in September.
The fair is held in the town´s park and there are stalls to display and sell rural products like traditional food and pastry, handicraft, utensils and clothing from other times, as well as animals and birds.
The sellers are dressed up in traditional costumes and folk groups sing and dance traditional songs while others play traditional accordions and drums.
